CCP became a community development charity in 2005, operating in and from the Catelnau Centre, which acts as a hub for local community activities. The Centre trustees have worked closely with members of the local community, in developing the Centre as a community resource and have made significant progress over the last few years.

CCP now provides a wide variety of activities covering adult education, advice and information, social and leisure facilities for the benefit of the local community. Current activities address the needs of all ages and include a mother and toddler group, after school clubs for 4 – 11 year olds, family learning in partnership with the local primary school, commissioned youth work, learning opportunities for adults, including training for employment and activities for older people.

We offer financial support to individual children living with the extreme effects of poverty, illness and social disadvantage. We combat immediate crisis with smalls grants for items such as beds, cookers, clothes or washing machines for those children growing up without. We help overcome longer term educational issues by funding places for vulnerable children in more supportive school environments, or by helping estranged students and trainees continue with their studies, or by providing the means to help harder to reach 18-25 year olds to return to education, training or employment.

£80 raised can help pay a week’s rent for a young person struggling to stay in college and pay their bills.
£150 raised can buy a bed and covers for a child previously sleeping on the floor.
£550 raised can fund a Housing Management Course to help a vulnerable young person back into work and help improve their self-esteem and confidence.
£1,000 raised can cover one term’s fees and accommodation to send a child to a more supportive school, where their individual medical, emotional, or personal needs can be met and the only alternative is being taken into care.

100% of all money raised will go directly and immediately to the children and young people we support.

Christopher’s Smile was set up in October 2008 by Karen & Kevin Capel following the tragic death of their only son Christopher from medulloblastoma, an aggressive brain tumour.

Supporting UK research centres such as The Institute of Cancer Research Christopher’s Smile aims to raise money to fund development of new drugs to treat medulloblastoma and other childhood cancers without devastating side effects. These drugs will provide an effective cure for all and save the lives of the 25% of children who currently do not survive their disease.
